  • 3D Engineering: Architectural & Structural Design

    Bring your imagination to life. Become a master bricklayer and use our special architectural LEGO® kits to build your creations. Be an architect as you learn the principles of construction. The main goal of the course is to introduce the concept of 3-dimensions and their role in design. Students will construct buildings, structures, towers, castles, and more within teams. Students will learn construction principles and use math skills to experiment with scale and size, staggering vs. stacking bricks, and more. We'll build houses with removable roofs, castles with turrets, and towers of strength! It might just be impossible to exhaust the creative potential of LEGO® bricks.     Learn the ins and outs of 3D Design and 3D printing with TinkerCAD! TinkerCAD will teach you 3D design and 3D printing! While learning 3D design skills, students will make custom D&D D4s (4-sided) and D10s (10-sided). They'll also do fun D&D-inspired challenges in TinkerCAD's SimLab. The custom dies will be printed and sent home. Dies will be printed and sent home at the end of class. Printing and material fees are included. Presented by Tech Academy.     3D Printing introduces students to a new world of possibilities! This class is for students who have no or limited experience with 3D Printing and is ideal for students who like to draw, design and see their creations come to life. Students will learn the ropes of 3D modeling and printing using Tinkercad to design their jewelry or wearables creations from scratch, 2 of which they get to print and take home. To allow everyone to print their creations, items may have to be scaled down to allow printing during class times. Students must be comfortable with using a laptop and mouse to design their creations. Presented by Engineering for Kids. Please note: This is for Middle School students. Join us for stress-free adventures, ensuring a day filled with joy, discovery and camaraderie. Detailed schedule and description available online Activity Mobility level for each Trip Level Expectation Description Level 1: Easy Expectations: This tour requires light physical activity. Tour members should expect intermittent walking, with occasional slight inclines and stair climbs, including boarding the motor coach, boat/ferry, tram, etc. There will be some walking to general points of interest. Guests should be able to climb a set of stairs, walk up or down slight slopes and navigate some uneven terrain. Appropriate for: All participants including those with lower mobility and who are comfortable participating in at least three hours of activity per day. Level 2: Moderate Expectations: This tour requires moderate physical activity. Participants should expect a moderate amount of walking. There will be time to rest between activities. To enjoy this tour, you should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on walking tours, sightseeing stops, etc. Appropriate for: Most participants beginning with those who are moderately fit, lead semi-active lives, are comfortable participating in long days of activities and expect some moderate physical activity Level 3: Active Expectations: This tour requires a high level of physical activity The tour includes well-paced walking tours, hikes, stairs, moderate slopes with regular breaks. Up to 2-3 hours of walking during trip. To fully take advantage of all this tour has to offer, guests need to be able to walk longer distances, climb several flights of stairs and navigate steps and uneven terrain walking for extended periods of time over more difficult terrain (e.g. cobblestones, city hills, stairs without handrails, limited or no access to elevators). Excursions require standing and walking for long periods of time where motorized vehicles may be prohibited. Appropriate for: Participants who are physically fit, expect a vigorous pace and enjoy participating in two to three hours of physical activity per day.

  • Advanced Middle School Band

    For students who are currently playing in 6th, 7th and 8th grade band, the Advanced Middle School Band is a full band rehearsal offered Mondays - Thursdays, 45 minutes each day for four weeks, and concludes with a concert for parents the evening of the last day. Optional Valleyfair Performance Field trip: Summer band participants will have the option to go to Valleyfair on August 2 to perform and spend the day. If your student would like to participate please select the registration rate that include Valley Fair Field trip Performance. Youth Scholarship/Financial Aid: Youth who are residing within the Mounds View Public Schools boundaries and currently qualify for educational benefits/free/reduced lunch may be eligible for partial scholarships to qualifying Enrichment & Activities programs.
